Please read the disclosures for more information On July 5, 2022, The Money Exchange podcast had its 100th episode!! If you are a podcaster or listen to podcasts, I know understand how big of a milestone this is. To celebrate how far the podcast has come, I decided to have our first ever solo episode. During this episode I share my journey with podcasting and what the listeners can look forward to in the next 100 episodes to come. WHO IS PATRINA DIXON But first, let me introduce myself. I am Patrina Dixon and commonly known as the It$ My Money Lady. I am also a Personal Finance Expert, International Speaker, Award-Winning Author of the top-selling financial journal book series, “It’$ My Money™” and an alumnus of 2018, 100 Women of Color. As an advocate for financial literacy, I have a passion for serving the community and use my company, P. Dixon Consulting, LLC to offer money management strategies to individuals of varying ages. My goal is to shape the spending and saving behaviors of my clients by guiding them towards financial independence. I am involved in create financial content as a blogger and podcast host of The Money Exchange. WHAT INSPIRED THE START OF THE MONEY EXCHANGE PODCAST By listening to other podcasts like Journey to Launch I was inspired to start the podcast to share my insight into finance. I then started listening to Marriage, Kids, and Money, Side Hustle Pro and His and Her Money among others,Listening to others talk about topics I am passionate about like personal finance and entrepreneurship, I decided to start the podcast, The Money Exchange. As an affiliate marketer and sponsor, having a podcast meant I had a wider audience to promote an array of services and products I promoted enabling me to earn from the sales. ![]() RECORDING BEFORE AND NOW The Money Exchange Podcast has evolved. When I started, I would schedule time at a recording studio aligned to that of my guest to record an episode however, I, later on, realized that this was time-consuming and would be extremely frustrating when a guest canceled considering I would have to drive back without getting any recording done. However, after interacting with other podcasters I came to the realization that I could actually have the podcast interviews on my laptop with the help of Zoom and later on have them edited by my podcast manager. This new development allows me to have interviews in favor of my schedule and guests get to book a time that works for them as well via my online calendar link. THE PROS AND CONS OF PODCASTING Many podcasters have different opinions on their podcasting journey and so do I. As a host, I enjoy interviewing guests because it is fun and I am familiar with the topics discussed, making it easy for the conversations to flow naturally. Podcasting also avails me the opportunity to learn a great deal from each guest considering the fact that I interviews experts in the finance and entrepreneurship field. As much as it gets exciting and knowledgeable, whenever a guest cancels, this is a bummer for me. LESSONS LEARNED FROM PODCASTING One of the major lessons I have learned about my podcasting journey so far is that consistency is key. I recall detesting the idea of batching episodes when I started because I did not quite understand why I had to hold on to a good episode. With time I have learned that batching allows for the podcast to be consistent and this keeps it in the mind of the listeners. Consistency also enables the growth of the podcast and in the long run, gives room to advertisers as well as promoters. Another lesson is to make podcasting fun. As you think of podcasting, do not over-engineer make sure it is fun. Talking about topics you love makes your podcast fun and listeners engaged. WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE MONEY EXCHANGE The podcast has a new schedule with two episodes being released a month, one the 1st and 3rd Tuesday. We have also evolved to have a more structured process for businesses to advertiser and sponsors who would like to collaborate with us. Check out the package here If you are looking to collaborate with us kindly reach out via email at patrina@itsmymoney.info and if you would love to be part of the It$ My Money® Community, listen to the podcast here and follow it on Instagram. The journey to 200 episodes begins!
